5 Types of Content you need on Instagram as a Coach, Expert or Online Business Owner

If you’ve clicked on this blog post, there’s a pretty good chance you’re a coach, sell an online course or run some kind of online business, am I right? And there’s also a good chance you’re on Instagram to grow your business or at least build an audience. Well, in this case you’re in the right place!

In this post I’m spilling the beans on what to post over on the ‘gram to catch the attention of your ideal audience and grow your business.

Let me share my own story of how I got started on Instagram:

I began posting on Instagram, first only for My Social Boutique and later also for the Template Membership, three years ago. At first, I didn’t really know what to share and to be completely honest, my content was all over the place at that time.

I even took two quite long breaks of some months because I just couldn’t figure out what our audience really wanted to see.

But with practice comes mastery, right?

And I’m so glad I always picked it up again, because today we’ve gained almost 2,000 ideal followers who are interested in our templates and what we sell. All of this definitely didn’t happen over night or by just posting for the sake of posting.

So, let me share with you the 5 things you should include in your Instagram content if you’re a coach, expert, course creator or run an online business:

1. Your Personality

As a coach, expert or service provider you’re not some faceless company brand. People follow you because they want to see YOU.

Yes, it’s all about authenticity. It’s about letting your true self shine through every post.

Show off your quirky sense of humor, share behind-the-scenes moments, and don’t be afraid to let your guard down. People connect with people. (You might have heard this before, but it’s just plain true.)

Embrace your unique voice and let it work its magic. Be real, be you, and watch your audience fall head over heels for your brand.

2. The Transformation

Now, let’s get down to business – the business of transformation, that is.

Your audience craves inspiration and growth. They want to see how you’ve helped others succeed and what’s on the other side of your offers.

You know your offerings work, but do you also show it?

Share stories of clients or customers who have experienced mind-blowing transformations through your products or services. (Yes, really pick the good ones!)

Paint a vivid picture of the “before” and “after” and let those success stories become your Instagram superheroes.

When people see the potential of what you offer, they’ll be lining up to be a part of it.

    3. Your Opinion

I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it as often as necessary: It’s 2024 – and it’s about time to take a stand on Instagram.

As an expert in your field, you’ve got opinions – and they matter! Instagram is the perfect platform to share your unique perspectives and position yourself as a thought leader.

Whether it’s through thought-provoking captions, engaging quote posts, or opinionized carousels, don’t shy away from voicing your beliefs. Remember, your audience is looking for guidance, and by sharing your insights, you become their go-to guru.

    4. Educational Content

    Teach, Teach, Teach!

They say knowledge is power, right? Well, it’s time to share that power with your audience.

Instagram loves educational content, so dish out some valuable tips, tricks, and advice.

Create eye-catching infographics, mini-tutorials, or even long-form Reels and lives that give your audience a taste of your expertise. When you become a go-to source for knowledge, your followers will keep coming back for more, and your brand will become an invaluable resource.

    5. Promotion

Now, we can’t talk about being on Instagram as an online business without mentioning the promotional side of things. After all, you’re running a business, and that means making those sales.

But here’s the secret sauce: Blend promotion with value. Create visually stunning mockups, talk about the problems you solve, share long-form captions that highlight the benefits, and offer exclusive, limited-time offers.

When you make promotions feel like a win-win, your audience will be excited to jump on board and support your business.

We know that sometimes coming up with content ideas can be a struggle – because who’s inspired all the time? – so we’ve collected specific content ideas you can plug-and-play into your content calendar:
