There’s nothing worse than finally noticing an Instagram trend, spending an hour recreating it… and realizing everyone else posted it two weeks ago.
The tricky thing about trends is that you usually want to catch them somewhere between “I’ve seen this a few times” and “please, not this again.”
And if you run a business, you probably don’t have hours every day to scroll through Instagram looking for the next big thing.
The good news? There are a few signs that can help you spot trends earlier. And there’s also a much easier option if you’d rather not do the trend hunting yourself.
1. Pay attention when you see something twice
One post isn’t a trend.
But when I notice the same format, joke, visual style or concept coming from completely unrelated accounts, I start paying attention.
And I don’t just mean trending Reels audios. Some of the biggest Instagram trends right now are carousel formats, static posts, memes, typography styles or simple concepts that people recreate in their own way.
The key is recognizing the format behind the individual post.
If you’ve seen three different creators do their own version within a few days, there’s a pretty good chance something is starting to happen.

2. Look outside your own niche
This is a big one.
If you only follow people in your own industry, you’ll often notice a trend once it has already made its way into your little Instagram bubble.
Instead, pay attention to what creators, brands and businesses in completely different niches are doing.
A trend might start with fashion creators and then move into beauty, food, business and marketing. If you spot it before everyone in your niche starts doing it, you have much more room to make it feel fresh.
And sometimes the best business content comes from taking something that wasn’t originally a business trend at all and finding a clever way to adapt it.
3. Learn to spot formats, not just trending audio
When people hear “Instagram trends,” they often immediately think of Reels and trending sounds.
But that’s only a small part of it now.
Look for repeated hooks, carousel structures, visual styles, memes, photo concepts, phrases and post formats too.
Something as simple as several accounts suddenly using the same sentence structure can turn into a trend.
Once you start looking at Instagram this way, you’ll notice trends everywhere.

4. Make sure it’s actually worth jumping on
Being early doesn’t automatically make a trend good for your business.
Before recreating something, ask yourself: Can I make this relevant to my audience? Does it fit my brand? And do I actually have something interesting to add?
If not, skip it.
You don’t need to participate in every trend to have a current, interesting Instagram presence. In fact, being selective is probably going to make the trends you do use feel much more natural.
We actually wrote a whole guide on how businesses should use social media trends if you want to go a little deeper into this.
Or… let us find the latest social media trends for you 👀
Okay, this is the much easier option.
We spend a slightly ridiculous amount of time looking at what’s happening on Instagram anyway, so we started putting all of our best finds in one place.
Our Instagram Trends Report 2026 is updated every week with the latest post, carousel and Reels trends we’re seeing gain traction, specifically focusing on the ones that can actually work for businesses and personal brands.
So instead of spending hours trend hunting, you can just check the report and see what’s new this week.

And if you find one you want to try, we’ve made that part easier too. The trends we love are turned into ready-to-customize Canva templates inside our Trend Edit, so you can put your own spin on them without having to recreate the format from scratch.
