If you thought you had to make Reels to grow on Instagram, I have some good news: carousels are having a BIG moment right now.
And personally? I’m here for it. 😅
Carousels give you so much room to share an opinion, tell a story, teach something useful or simply make people feel seen. And unlike a Reel, you don’t need to film yourself, find an audio, edit clips or get camera-ready just to post something good.
What I’m finding especially interesting this fall is that carousel trends aren’t just about how a post looks. The hook and the design are becoming part of the format together.
We’re seeing certain phrases, layouts and visual styles repeated across Instagram, with everyone putting their own spin on them.
So if you’re looking for some fresh inspiration, here are 5 Instagram carousel trends I’m loving for fall 2026, plus ideas for making them work for your own business.
1. “Things That Deserve a Red Card”
A little dramatic? Yes. But that’s exactly why this format works.
The first slide starts with “Things that deserve a red card”, followed by all the things in your niche that you think need to go. It’s opinionated, instantly understandable and practically made for a swipe-through carousel.
Visually, this one works best when you keep it simple. Strong typography, a solid background and one recognizable visual (in this case, literally a red card) are more than enough.

2. “Things I’ve Said Out Loud As A…”
This is SUCH a good format for personal brands because it instantly gives people a glimpse into your actual life.
Start with “Things I’ve said out loud as a…” and finish it with whatever you are: business owner, designer, coach, photographer, mom running a business, social media manager…
Then use the rest of the carousel for the funny, painfully accurate or slightly unhinged things you regularly catch yourself saying. 😅
The visual style is casual too. Think real-life photos, phone snapshots and big text overlays rather than perfectly polished graphics. It should feel personal.

3. “Just Checking If…”
This is one of those formats that can work in SO many different niches.
The hook starts with a simple “Just checking if…”, followed by a reminder, question or thought your audience probably needs to hear.
Just checking if you’ve followed up with that lead.
Just checking if you’ve actually told people about your offer this week.
Just checking if you’re taking enough breaks and looking after yourself.
You get the idea.
And visually, I love this with big, bold typography and a simple photo or background. It feels almost like a little note popping up in someone’s feed rather than another educational carousel.
Try it for your business: Use this for the small reminders your ideal customer needs regularly. It can be useful, funny, supportive or even slightly calling-them-out-in-a-nice-way.

4. “Things I Find Incredibly Chic”
This format is very internet right now, and I love how easy it is to make it your own.
Start with “Things I find incredibly chic” and use the following slides to share your very specific list.
And “chic” doesn’t have to mean fashion.
A business coach could share “Business habits I find incredibly chic.” A designer could do “Brand details I find incredibly chic.” A social media manager could share “Things brands do on Instagram that I find incredibly chic.”
The visual style is a little more editorial and imperfect: serif fonts, oversized typography, everyday photography, unexpected crops and layouts that feel more like a magazine or photo diary than traditional social media graphics.
Try it for your business: Don’t make your list too obvious. Your very specific opinions are what make people curious enough to keep swiping.

5. “The Golden Rules I Don’t Believe In”
If there’s one type of content I think is especially good for showing expertise right now, it’s having an actual opinion.
This format takes the usual “5 golden rules of…” post and flips it.
Instead, share the rules everyone in your industry seems to repeat that you don’t actually agree with.
For example:
The golden rules of social media marketing I don’t believe in.
The golden rules of branding I don’t believe in.
The golden rules of running a small business I don’t believe in.
It’s educational content, but it doesn’t feel like another generic list of tips we’ve all read 100 times.
Visually, this works beautifully with everyday lifestyle photography and oversized text placed directly over the image. You don’t need a complicated design. The statement itself is the thing that gets people to stop.
Try it for your business: Don’t be controversial just for the sake of it. Pick advice you genuinely disagree with and use the following slides to explain why. That’s where the actual value is.
